Emergency Department

Halifax Hospital Port Orange's Emergency Department (ED) is available to serve the community 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A triage nurse initially evaluates patients to determine their condition. An eight-bed Fast Track area provides care for patients with minor illnesses and injuries. A 12-bed medical treatment area is available for patients with more serious illnesses and injuries. After being stabilized, patients requiring more specialized or acute care services such as Obstetrics, Neurosurgery or Open Heart surgery, will be transferred to Halifax Medical Center (HMC) in Daytona Beach. HMC features a renowned, full-service Heart Center, has the only officially designated Comprehensive Stroke Center in Central Florida, and the only Trauma Center in the region.

The ED at Halifax Hospital Port Orange also includes two rooms equipped for gynecologic patients, one room equipped for pediatric patients, and one security room. Two treatment areas are available for patients requiring isolation. Nursing personnel will use mobile wireless computers to complete the patient's electronic medical record.
